Sabrina Ionescu told reporters she plans to make her season debut Sunday when the New York Liberty host the Dallas Wings.
The four-time All-Star guard has been sidelined by a left foot injury suffered in a May 3 preseason win at Connecticut.
However, she has been practicing since Monday and told reporters after practice Saturday that she plans on playing Sunday.
Liberty coach Chris DeMarco expressed optimism after Thursday's 87-70 loss to the Golden State Valkyries that the Liberty would have Ionescu back sooner rather than later.
'She looks good,' DeMarco said. 'It's really about the recovery and how she's feeling later in the day and the next day. And so yeah, we're really close there and we're happy with her progress.'
Ionescu told reporters Saturday she considers herself 'day to day' and doesn't yet know if she'll be available to play in Monday's matchup against the Portland Fire.
Ionescu averaged 18.2 points, 5.7 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 38 games (all starts) for the Liberty in 2025.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft has averaged 16.7 points, 5.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds in 181 career games (177 starts) for New York. She helped the Liberty win the WNBA championship in 2024.
