Richard Childress Racing parked the No. 8 Chevrolet indefinitely on Friday, the day after driver Kyle Busch died at age 41 following a severe illness.
The car number could return to the NASCAR in the future, though, driven by Brexton Busch, Kyle Busch's son who is currently 11 years old.
RCR wrote in a statement, 'Kyle Busch was instrumental in the design of RCR's stylized No. 8 and it has become synonymous with Kyle and an important symbol for his fans and the NASCAR industry. No one can carry it forward to the level that he did. The No. 8 is reserved and ready for Brexton Busch when he is ready to go NASCAR racing.'
Brexton Busch is already a racing aficionado, having won the Tulsa Shootout Jr. Sprint Championship last year.
The No. 33 Chevrolet, driven by Austin Hill, will replace the No. 8 for RCR starting with the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Kyle Busch and his wife, Samantha, also have a 4-year-old daughter, Lennix.
Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2015 and 2019. His total of 234 victories in NASCAR's top three series, including 63 in the Cup Series, was an all-time record.
