Miami head coach Gino DiMare is stepping down after five seasons, he and the school announced Thursday.
His decision brings to an end a 24-year career as a volunteer, assistant and head coach in Coral Gables, Fla., where he also starred as an outfielder under Ron Fraser (1989-92).
DiMare, 53, leaves with a 168-86 mark in five seasons and four NCAA Tournament appearances - making the tourney every year it was held. Miami won 42 games this past season, the most since 2016.
"After evaluating this past season and talking extensively with my family, I have decided it is in my best interests and the best interests of the program to step away as head coach," DiMare said in a statement.
"I am fortunate to say I have spent more than half my life as a player or coach at the University of Miami. I will always be a Hurricanes fan and wish this program continued success."
DiMare was elevated to head coach to replace Jim Morris in 2019.
His 24-year tenure is marked by 21 postseason appearances, 10 College World Series appearances and two national championships.
Miami's season ended Sunday in a 10-6 defeat to Texas in the finals of the Coral Gables Regional. The top-seeded Canes went 2-2 in the regional they hosted, losing both games to Texas.
