POTOSI, Bolivia: On May 9, a tear gas grenade set off during a university assembly in Bolivia triggered a stampede, which killed four students and injured 50.
The students had gathered to elect new student body leaders at the school in the city of Potosi, some 260 miles south of the capital, La Paz, Tomas Frias University Rector Pedro Lpez told Radio Panamericana.
"In the middle of the assembly, a tear gas grenade was detonated, which created a stampede. Many students were trampled," he said.
Potosi police chief Col. Limberth Choque told state television that the four dead students were women.
