1 in 4 Brits admit visiting Wonders of the World that no longer exist

A quarter of Britons have claimed that they have been to ancient Wonders of the World, wiped off the Earth hundreds of years ago.

Over one in eight (13 per cent) said that they have seen the Colossus of Rhodes, a statue that was destroyed in 226 BC.

Five per cent insisted that they have been to the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus in Turkey and three per cent claim to have seen the statue of Zeus at Olympia, Greece.

But Zeus was destroyed in the 5th Century and Artemis was torched in the 3rd Century, the Daily Mail reported.

Out of 2,500 people surveyed by Hotels.com, 21 per cent asserted that they had visited the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt - the only ancient wonder still standing.

But no one stated to have seen the Hanging Gardens of Babylon - the only fictional ancient 'wonder'.

Kate Hopcraft, of Hotels.com, said that she was surprised 24 per cent of Brits claim to have visited monuments, which do not even exist

"Our research shows Brits are rather confused about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World," she said. (ANI)
